Halitosis (bad breath)  is an embarrassing condition that affects many adults.   Over the counter treatments are temporarily able to cover the symptom, but often don’t address the underling causes.

Halitosis can be the result of an underlying medical condition such as diabetes or acid reflux (GERD), but most of the time it is the result of bacterial processes in the oral cavity.    One common cause of bad breath is gum infection or periodontal disease.    Bacteria growing and adhering under the gum to the root surfaces of teeth cause the release of odor producing substances.  This can be corrected with periodontal treatment and proper home care.    Another cause is bacteria on the tongue and gums that react with food substances, releasing volatile sulfur containing compounds.  We can make recommendations to treat and manage these conditions, using new oral rinses and home care products.    You don’t have to live with bad breath.
